Lazer Lamps Long Term Test

Last updated

We have been using the Lazer Lamps T16 for years now, and can definitely say that we are huge fans. You might have already seen us writing briefly about them in one of our earlier posts about lights. To be precise, we have been using the Lazer Lamps T16 light-bar since 2018.

Thus, we now think it is a good time to share a ‘long-term test review’ of this powerful light-bar so that our readers know whether it is a worthy choice or not.

Interestingly, Lazer Lamps Ltd. has already released a new and improved version of that light bar namely T16 Evolution. We will talk about that in this post, as well.

Lazer Lamps T16 – Long-Term Review

Lazer Lamps review

First off, we should tell you that even though they have released a new version of this light-bar, we are going to review the previous version here.

In that sense, we will be reviewing the product we have been using for multiple years. That way, we will be able to provide a thorough review from our first-hand experience.

You know that the default driving lights of the vehicle are not powerful enough for off-roading, especially when there are no reference points around the track, such as trees, etc.

In open areas like the Central Asian steppe or deserts anywhere in the world, a vehicles’ headlights will not get you anywhere if you’re trying to drive after sunset. For overlanders, high-performance LED light-bars are an absolute necessity.

This particular light bar has helped us through the dark steppes of Kazakhstan and the Gobi desert, as well as the Caucasus. As much as we’re trying not to drive during the night, sometimes it’s just unavoidable.

We were very lucky to be supplied with the T-16s by Lazer Lamps Ltd in 2018 just before our Budapest-Singapore overland adventure. We were chuffed when they replied back to us confirming that they’d be supporting us by sending an LED light bar to test and review during our journey.

Even though we truly appreciated their support, you can be assured that our review will be honest and unbiased.

All the necessary installation accessories came with the lightbar kit, and with a very detailed and easy-to-follow instruction manual, so it was all very easy to install.

Since installing the light bar, we have not noticed any faults or errors. As a matter of fact, it was hit by branches several times during our trips, as well as put through heavy storms, sand storms, and hail. And yet, no wear and tear actually appeared on the light-bar even after all of these years.

Naturally, this light bar is fully waterproof. We have taken it through rain and the harshest environments without any issues. The build quality of this lightbar is of the highest level.

The Lazar Lamp T16 is equipped with 16 high output LEDs (11 Watt each). All of the LEDs are specifically selected for optimal performance. It has an aluminum enclosure, which is lightweight yet sturdy.

Overall, the weight of this light bar is only 2.6 Kg or 5.73 lbs. Meaning, it doesn’t add too much weight to the vehicle, which is especially important if you install it high on the roof as we did. You could potentially install it on the front bumper too (Flexi-Mount system).

Given that ours is fixed to the roof rack (easily installed on our FrontRunner modular rack) there is a bit of wind noise over 60 miles/hour, but nothing too disturbing.

For maximum light output, it features the ‘Dual-Optic’ reflector system, where the central collimator delivers high-intensity light close to the vehicle. Likewise, the vacuum metalized reflector spreads the light to an incredible distance.

You will also appreciate the CAE-optimized heat sink and electronic thermal management system. It features a silicon-coated Gore-Tex breather membrane as well.

Due to this, you can even jet wash the lights without the risk of water getting inside. They come with the ‘Flexi-Mount’ system, which allows the user to install them in multiple ways.

The T-16 light-bar driving lights from Lazer Lamps Ltd. come with a voltage range of 9V-32V. The optical efficiency of this is 88%. It has a hybrid beam pattern technology and can provide a raw lumen of 13,880 lumens.

You can see that the total power consumption is only 190 watts. Plus, the beam distance (0/25LX) is approximately 860 meters. At 14.4 volts, the current draw is 13 amps. As usual, the LED lights have a lifespan of at least 50,000 hours.

All of Lazer Lamps’ LED lights are pressure tested, and use a 3 mm thick Lexan GE Polycarbonate and a hard coat lacquer finish on the lens.

In that sense, the lenses are completely chip and impact resistant. In fact, they are so confident with their lenses, they offer a full replacement guarantee in the case they break or crack (unless it is caused intentionally).

From our first-hand experience, we can tell you that these LED light-bar driving lights have the superior build quality and premium performance.

We were properly shocked by their performance when we first saw the power of the beams.

We can definitely recommend this Lazer Lamps LED light-bar without hesitation to our readers. It also goes without saying that the newly improved version (T16 Evolution) would be certainly better than the one we are using right now (T16).

Pros:

  • Come with ‘unbreakable’ polycarbonate lenses
  • Fully waterproof
  • Incredibly powerful high-performance lighting
  • Very easy to install
  • Negligible wind noise
  • Come with a reliable multi-year warranty

Cons:

  • Nothing major to mention

Last Words

It is best if you avoid driving after dark. However, in many cases, it is also unavoidable. That is the time when an immensely powerful LED light bar could come in handy.

The vehicle lighting Lazer Lamps T16 has been serving us very well and we are beyond satisfied with it. At the moment, you can get the new version of this light bar, which is the T16 Evolution.

Reportedly, the manufacturer has re-designed, re-engineered, and improved this new version compared to the previous one in terms of many aspects.

As a result, it comes with an increased light distribution, higher range, efficient thermal management systems, and a better warranty. In that sense, the T16 Evolution must be even better.
