Overall review of the Smittybilt G.E.A.R. Tailgate Cover
We would like to highlight a few key features! The tailgate cover is manufactured from durable, waterproof coated 600 denier polyester. It has a PAL/MOLLE pattern on it, allowing for placement of the two included pouches in a variety of configurations but other pouches are available for purchase that can also be used with the tailgate cover. And on top of all this: it looks awesome!!
Jeep owners often have lots of gear to take along on their adventures, and the wide-open storage area in the back of the vehicle lends itself to the various pieces of that gear bouncing around and banging into each other.
And Jeep owners know that when they take the top off their vehicle, anything lightweight and unattached can and sometimes will fly out and may become a hazard to following vehicles.
The Smittybilt G.E.A.R. Tailgate cover provides a solution for both of those problems, by giving the owner a convenient and attractive way to organize his or her gear by attaching it to the otherwise-unused interior of the tailgate.
The tailgate cover is manufactured from sturdy, waterproof, fade-resistant polyester. It is completely UV stable, and comes in four colors: black, tan, OD (olive) green and ACU (Army/Airman Combat Uniform camouflage).
The accompanying pouches provide a glimpse into the flexibility of the PAL/MOLLE grid pattern. The pouches come with shoulder straps for easy portability when not attached to the tailgate, and fasten to the tailgate cover easily.
By attaching the pouches to the inside of the tailgate, they are immediately available upon opening the tailgate. No more rummaging around in a jumbled pile of stuff that has shifted around during your drive. Your stuff is right there, and you can grab it and go in a flash.
The overall feedback on the tailgate cover was positive on Amazon. Comments included terms like “well-built” and “does what it says.” There were many good tips in the reviews for making the installation go smoothly, and there was advice on storing gear in the enclosed pouches.
Reviewers were positive about the accompanying pouches themselves too, and there were suggestions for other pouches and gear that could be readily used with the tailgate cover.
Several reviewers stated that the enclosed pouches only protrude a couple of inches into the storage area, leaving you plenty of space for storing your other gear.
Choose the Right Tailgate Cover Model for Your Jeep
As the Tailgate Cover comes in several different models, make sure you buy the correct one for your Jeep.
If you own a Jeep Wrangler and are looking for something to help keep your stuff organized in the storage area without sacrificing critical storage space, the Smittybilt G.E.A.R. Tailgate Cover might be the right choice for you.
